Anna Karenina
By Leo Tolstoy
Fiction/Russian/Classic/Romance

I'm only on page 144/736, but so far it's pretty interesting; excellent story development. Being only less than 1/5 of the way through the book it already feels like it could be resolved, so there is a lot going on with the plot, but it's not a bad thing. BUT that also means it's too complex for me to explain the basic story line in a paragraph. I might do that when I'm finished the book. I am really enjoying it so far, however due to the content I would hesitate to recommend the book to someone else...I would let you use your own judgement.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
By Betty Edwards
Educational/Handbook/Text/Course

This is the best drawing 'how to' book I've ever read. I do already know how to draw, but sometimes reading about it helps solidify random stuff. This one also explains the physical and psychological behind drawing so I'm finding that pretty fascinating. I have read it before, but it's just THAT GOOD :)

What's So Amazing About Grace?
By Philip Yancey
Religion/Christian Life/Spiritual Growth

I was recommended by my very wise and wonderful teacher to read this book due to certain battles I wage against myself...It is very good, and yes, I still believe in my teacher's wonder and wisdom ;) I would encourage anyone to read this one. Obviously it is about grace, but it really pushes the boundaries in it's approach to the topic. It talks a lot about the lack of grace in the world and in the church, and explains that the difference between other religions and/or belief systems, and Christianity is grace; the root of Christianity is grace. Love it. There's a lot more to it than that but...I'm done :P

Mc:

Wow...ok, where to start.
For one, writing is really not my thing, and two, when it comes to something important or something that needs to be described with some clarity I find myself at a complete loss, so please forgive my ramblings...

I am an artist in every sense of the word. I paint and I draw. A life as a penniless, starving artist does not sound wholly unappealing to me, if you catch mah drift ;-) Music is also one of my passions. I have been playing the piano since I was 5 years old, so I guess you could say it's one of my major fortes....no pun intended of course XD
I also live up to many of the artists stereotypes, unfortunately for my family and friends, and everyone in between. I have been called eccentric by no small number of people, and yes, I do take it as a compliment. I also base nearly everything off my emotions and if you were to ask me to describe something that means a lot to me or that has affected me deeply, I couldn't. It's feeling and it shall stay a feeling...or a painting. I have a tendency to be an introvert. An ideal day for me would include at least one blank hour - a time in which I take my ginormous mug of tea with me into my room, and sit there, doing absolutely nothing but drinking my apparently horrible tasting tea, and thinking. Best part of the day if you ask me. And yes, of course, I also love to read, but I think we will expound on that in the near future :)

Lookin'  forward to this ya'll..!!

  1. I've heard great things about Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. I'm not an artist in that medium at all, but I may still read it one day just for curiosity's sake.
And Tolstoy is on my list to get to one day soon...is this the first book of his that you've read? If not, which would you recommend I start with?

  2. I was saying to M. that DotRSotB is the book that I used when I used to teach art - and I feel what is was what I used to learn to draw myself. A great book! Makes you realize that most of learning to draw is really learning to see.
